Dr. Bruce Shapiro is a psychiatrist practicing in Stamford, Connecticut. He is a former Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York and former Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at New York Medical College. Dr. Shapiro is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Shapiro has a specialized interest in the interface of psychology, psychiatry and world history. He has extensive experience in the treatment of individuals and couples with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and those in need of psychotherapy. As well, he is an experienced forensic psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist.
He has held numerous positions including Associate Director, Psychiatric Residency Training at New York Medical College, Clinical Director of the Department of Psychiatry at Westchester County Medical Center and, for 17 years, from 1986 to 2003, was the Psychiatrist-in-Chief at the Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut.
He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has held specialty certifications in Forensic Psychiatry , Geriatric Psychiatry, Adolescent Psychiatry and a past Certification in Psychopharmacology by the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. Dr. Shapiro has also served as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Shapiro has been included on the Castle Connolly list of Top Doctors every year for over 25 years.
He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Connecticut Psychiatric Society.
