
Dr. Bruce Shapiro is a psychiatrist practicing in Stamford, Connecticut. He is a former Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at New York Medical College. Dr. Shapiro is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Shapiro specializes in the treatment of individuals with depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder and the treatment of physicians. In addition, Dr. Shapiro is an experienced forensic psychiatrist and psychopharmacologist.
He has held numerous positions including Associate Director, Psychiatric Residency Training at New York Medical College, Clinical Director of the Department of Psychiatry at Westchester County Medical Center and, for 17 years from 1986 to 2003, Psychiatrist-in-Chief at the Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut.
Dr. Shapiro has been included on the lists of Best Doctors and Top Doctors for the past 22 years, every year since their inception. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has held specialty certifications in Forensic Psychiatry , Geriatric Psychiatry, Adolescent Psychiatry and a past Certification in Psychopharmacology by the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. Dr. Shapiro has also served as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Connecticut Psychiatric Society.
